Moshe Feldenkrais mentioned that the chest is the last area to fully integrate into our actions or awareness of ourselves. He suggested that we all benefit from discovering the possibilities for movement in the upper chest and upper back with its relation to greater mobility, emotional expression and an easier life.
Studying lessons exploring the potential for improvement in these areas has been a recent interest of mine and I appreciate the lightness and optimism that develops from doing these lessons.
On the day we will approach this theme from various angles and work in different positions on the floor. We will explore how introducing more mobility, softness and awareness in the upper chest will facilitate fuller breathing, supports easier use of hands and arms and ameliorates tension and discomfort in the neck.
