Gentle Yoga and Somatic Meditation with Emily Holden
December 7 @ 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30pm on Thursday, repeating until 11 October 2018
Do you struggle to hold your own experience?
Do you find yourself turning to food, alcohol, TV, shopping… anything that will take your mind off the sense of unease you feel bubbling underneath your life?
Join me on Thursday evenings, 7.30pm, in Studio 2 at Unit 4.
I hold space for people to grow their capacity to be present to their own experience. Through mindful movement and body-based meditation, we invite our nervous systems to down-regulate. In this way, we feel more spacious, calm and open. Being in this receptive state makes us more available to experience the joy of life, and move through any physical or emotional blockages that might be preventing us from living our lives more fully.
What to expect in a Deeply Gentle Yoga session?
Inspired by Vanda Scaravelli, Marc J Acquaviva, Reggie Ray, Tibetan Buddhist meditation practices, and my own explorations, the yoga I teach prioritises the felt-sense of the body as the primary focus of the class. You will be invited to dive deeply and gently into your body, feeling out for pockets of tension, ease, spaciousness, bliss, sorrow… As you move slowly and softly, your body will release old stories and habits, and you will have the delicious potential to experience new ways of moving, thinking, doing and being.
Our bodies have an innate intelligence that knows how to eat, how to breathe, how to move, how to rest. We learn to listen and follow internal cues rather than external ones. All bodies can do this yoga, regardless of experience, fitness level or body size.
In our yoga, we will explore:
–Following the felt sense of YOUR body rather than a prescribed set of postures
–Lying, sitting and standing, at whatever pace you feel able, using props as you need to
-How your body feels internally and how it senses the space around it (interoception and proprioception)
–Mantra and affirmations to reprogramme your thoughts from within your subconscious
–Voice work, accompanied by the shruti box (a small accordion-style musical instrument), to explore a sense of personal freedom and self expression
When we unite body and mind in this loving and tender way, we remove the conflicts that so often drive our self-destructive behaviours. We occupy a deeper space of awareness, acceptance and peace. We begin to take this loving space into our daily actions, and find that our experience of life changes. That is my experience of yoga. It has slowly, gently and lovingly changed everything I know about myself and how to live. If you’re currently struggling to feel comfortable on this planet, I wish the same for you, too.
Your investment: £10 a session.
Or pay £50 for a block of 6 classes (to be used within 3 months).
