I’ve practised Scaravelli-inspired yoga since 2002 and have a varied and natural daily practice.
I qualified in July 2019 as a yoga teacher with Dot Bowen’s Integrity School of Yoga (2 year, 200 hour, Yoga Teacher Development Course), and am registered with the Independent Yoga Network and insured by BGi.
I officially began teaching yoga in September 2019, but have been practising teaching throughout my teaching course (2017-2019) including 1:1 and small group classes, working with varied levels of mobility.
My main teachers and influences in yoga are Suzy Greenwood (nee Daw) (suzannadawyoga) Dot Bowen (dotbowenyoga), John Stirk (John Stirk[.]com) and Becky Barkans, all of whom have several decades of teaching experience and are regular practitioners with Diane Long, a long-term student of Vanda Scaravelli’s. In addition to my certification, I have attended in-depth Scaravelli-inspired courses, classes and yoga therapy workshops and 1:1 sessions with these teachers, amounting to over 200 contact hours. I continue to be guided by these teachers on a regular basis.
My experience of working with the body is also informed by my love of athletics. As an adult I played Capoeira Angola, a Brazilian martial art, intensively for five years and led beginner training classes. These experiences taught me much about the benefits of intentional practice, play and movement.
After injuring my back in 2015 and struggling to walk, or tie my shoelaces without pain, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic treatment and a regular Yoga practice helped me find ease in movement again.
I juggle a high-stress and demanding corporate job with family life. Breathing techniques, grounding and developing an increased felt-sense, or sense of embodiment, by practicing yoga have helped me manage my stress. I am thrilled to be able to share what I’ve learnt over the years with others and to practice in community.
